Advanced Figure Drawing is for students who have a solid understanding of construction and anatomy and would like to take their drawings further. In this 10-week course we will explore a range of concepts and techniques meant to develop a stronger understanding of composition, design, and mark making.

This is an intensive course designed to solidify your understanding of the gesture, form, and anatomy of the human figure. Beyond just memorizing anatomical diagrams, we will focus on the structure and function of the anatomy to better understand how it can be used as a design element. Each week we will go over different parts of the body and focus on understanding how to organize and design the human form.

This class is an introduction to perspective in which we will gain an understanding of one, two, and three-point perspective systems and how to use them to create environments. Understating of these systems will be developed through weekly drawing assignments where practical usage will be explained and demonstrated. Along with technical issues, we will also touch on composition and design concepts.

This class will introduce students to the basics of drawing costume and drapery. Heavy emphasis will be placed on understanding not just the structure, but also the mechanics of folds. This class will give students a better sense of how to design and simplify drapery when drawing from life, reference, or imagination.

This course will be an in-depth study on drawing heads with an emphasis on understanding construction and structure. Beyond just portrait drawing, we will address drawing heads from different angles, facial expression, and caricature and stylization.

This class is an introduction to head painting with acrylic/gouache paint designed as a stepping stone from drawing to painting. We will start from the beginning and work up from painting in greyscale to using a limited palette of red, white, black, and yellow (aka the Zorn palette). The class will emphasize the importance of drawing and having a clear sense of structure and organization while painting.
